The Hotel Bellwether was constructed near the Pacific coast in Bellingham, Washington. Three floors of hotel space, a restaurant, a lounge, and a below grade parking structure were included in the design. Because of its proximity to the ocean and water table, water proofing products were needed that are capable of withstanding strong hydrostatic pressure as well as leaks that would originate from a suspended slab onto the parking facility below.
Kryton's Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM ) admixture was used in the concrete slab and all the below grade retaining walls. Kryton's Hydrostop was used on all exterior brick, grout, and rock facings to repel the wind driven rain which contained salts picked up from the ocean. To date, the Kryton products have performed as specified. In fact, where KIM was not used, there is consistent leaking when it rains.
