Protecting the parking lot below from possible leakage from these water systems was imperative.
To reinforce and supplement conventional waterproofing systems, Intrawest utilized Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) and the KIM Waterstop joint design system to seal and waterproof the water systems.
KIM was added to the concrete pour for the roof slab and all construction joints were sealed and reinforced with the KIM Waterstop joint system.
Despite some early, isolated piping and leakage problems in the water systems, the KIM concrete slab and Waterstop joint system have performed as specified and the parkade remains leak-free.
Based on this success, Kryton waterproofing products have also been used to stop seepage of ground water in the resort's tunnels and elevator pits. More than (3,670 meters) 4,000 yards of KIM concrete have been used at the Sandestin resort to date.
