The Riverport Flats are luxury rental apartments built in the south-end of Richmond, BC. Located on a river delta just one meter above sea level the area is prone to flooding. Because of the high water table and the waterfront location waterproofing was a major challenge for this project.
Traditional externally applied membranes would not be an option to waterproof the thick raft slab that sits below the water table as typically membranes are damaged when pouring the concrete. The repair of the leaking slab would be costly.
The team looked to Kryton’s crystalline waterproofing admixture to waterproof the raft slab. Kryton’s waterproofing admixture – Krystol Internal Membrane or KIM turns the concrete itself into the waterproof barrier eliminating the need for external membranes. KIM will last the entire life of the concrete.
The four-story building features 80 rental suites, underground parking, manicured gardens, stunning views of the Fraser River and is located a short distance to historic sites like Steveston Heritage Village.
