Women on Business – March 4, 2011
PRESS RELEASE
Kari Yuers, CEO of Kryton International Inc. has extensive experience working successfully in the expanding, often politically volatile, markets of the Middle East, Asia and South America on behalf of her Vancouver BC manufacturing company.
At the World of Concrete convention in Las Vegas in January, Kari spoke about RAPID CHANGE IN GLOBAL MARKETS AND TECHNOLOGY. She highlighted global industry trends, emerging markets, new technology and the expanding role for women in the dynamic and growing construction industry.
At the conclusion of her address, Kari said:
“Population shifts, innovations in concrete technology, and the globalization of our economy provide us with opportunities we have never seen before. And women have a dominant role to play.
“In addition to intelligence, the ability to sit still and focus, to communicate effectively, to listen to people, and foster creativity are also required. These are traits that women intrinsically possess.”
In a predominantly male-run industry, Kari Yuers stands out as an example, and perhaps a harbinger, of a woman in charge of a construction manufacturing company. Kari just celebrated her 20th year with Kryton, makers of concrete waterproofing products, headquartered in Vancouver, B.C. She grew up in the business founded in 1973 by her father. She’s been with the company as a manager for the past 20 years, the last 10 as CEO.
Kari Yuers became President and CEO of Kryton in 2001. The company is privately-owned and specializes in providing concrete waterproofing solutions around the globe. The daughter of Kryton founder Ron Yuers, Kari learned the business from the bottom up, holding key positions in manufacturing, R&D, and architectural & engineering specifications. In 1991 she joined Kryton as Vice President of Technical Services. In 2007 Kari was appointed to the Board of Direction of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) for a 3-year term.
Under her leadership, Kryton was recently ranked #1 in British Columbia’s 2010 competition for the Best Companies to Work For in the Manufacturing, Construction and Distribution category. For details, see lead story at http://www.kryton.com
