As a global company and leader in the crystalline admixture category, Kryton International Inc. brings in world class, category-leading technical expertise, and tailors it to local applications. Kryton is a global company that also has the ability to act local. As a subsidiary of Kryton, Kryton Buildmat Co. Pvt. Ltd. is governed by all the quality and manufacturing standards of the parent company. The company’s production unit is ISO Certified and Kryton is the only crystalline concrete waterproofing supplier in India that holds the coveted ISI hallmark. Kryton brings over 40 years of international experience, and has been present in India for over 17 years. Kryton provides customers with high quality products, manufactured to these international standards, and back up the product line with unparalleled service and expertise that is expected from the Kryton brand. This ensures that Kryton’s concrete waterproofing projects remain dusty dry and outlive their warranty periods time and again.
Kryton offers the most complete crystalline concrete waterproofing solution system available. As the inventor of the crystalline waterproofing admixture, Kryton has refined an innovative system that includes the waterproofing admixture Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM), the Krystol Waterstop System for Joints, the Krystol Crack Repair System, and the Krystol Surface-Applied Solution.
The system is supported by:
All of this is backed by a global network of expertise; including chemists, engineers, and experts from top universities and research facilities, including Kryton’s own two full-time concrete research testing laboratories.
The support Kryton provides helps its customer’s projects in the following ways:
Along with strong product quality guidelines, Kryton provides customers with the latest in technical know-how & research from their permeability testing laboratories. Customers benefit directly from the pioneering work carved out by the largest North American laboratory specializing in permeability testing.
Kryton in India is headed by Civil Engineers with decades of Indian and international experience between them. Kryton takes pride in providing solutions to extremely high risk and technically complicated projects. With the only crystalline waterproofing manufacturing unit in India, Kryton has consistently delivered high quality products that are BIS Hallmarked, as well as being approved and recommended by Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Engineer’s India Limited (EIL), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The consistent deliverance of quality is ensured through the ISO Certification and yearly qualification/audits.
“When we started Kryton in India, our vision was to bring to India international quality products that worked for our standards of construction.” say Mr. Umesh Kakkar, Managing Director “So we set up a plant here. We manufacture our products at state-of-the-art facility in Dharuhera, and deliver anywhere in India within 2-3 weeks. We give the right solution to our clients and employment to local people.”
The manufacturing unit also includes an R&D department where Kryton is constantly researching new products for the ever growing needs of the industry. Kryton prides itself in being called the ‘solution provider’ and not just product manufacturer. “We have always tried to give a complete solution and have never had a one-product-fits-all approach, because frankly that doesn’t work. This is the reason our customers keep coming back” says Mr. Kakkar.
Why Kryton products?
Kryton’s award-winning Krystol Technology is by far unique in terms of not just its chemical properties, but also physical properties. This technology uses water, and acts as a catalyst to create long, narrow crystals within the concrete itself. These crystals permanently fill the pores, capillaries and hairline cracks of the concrete mass, and continue to grow throughout the concrete, reaching lengths of many inches over time. Once the concrete has cured, the crystalline chemicals sit dormant until another dose of water (such as through a new crack) causes the chemical reaction to begin again. The ability to reactivate in the presence of water gives Krysto-treated concrete the ability to “self-seal”. When cracks form due to curing shrinkage, settling, seismic activity, etc., water entering through them causes new crystals to form and grow, blocking and filling the cracks. This ability to self—seal can help to dramatically reduce the long-term maintenance and repair costs of a concrete structure. In India, Kryton promises a 10 year guarantee for every project it undertakes, and has many structures that have outlived their warranties and are still dusty dry today.
The Products
Kryton offers a range of unique products for new and existing concrete structures.
As the key product within the Krystol Line of products, Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is the most used. KIM is an integral, crystalline waterproofing admixture; and the only true PRAH (Permeability Reducing Admixture — Hydrostatic Conditions), according to the wor|d—renowned American Concrete Institute (ACI). When combined with water, it uses Krystol Technology to react with un-hydrated cement particles and water to turn the complete concrete mass into a permanent waterproof barrier. It does not require labour intensive application and can simply be added to the mix truck or the batching plant.
Product Benefits
Krystol T‘I & T2 is an “in-depth” concrete treatment system, which is applied as a slurry or spray to the surface of existing concrete structures. In the presence of water, the special chemicals react with the concrete to grow millions of long, needIe-shaped crystals deep into the concrete mass. These crystals permanently block and prevent the passage of water through capillary pores, micro-cracks and joints. The concrete itself becomes the waterproof layer and the surface treatment is not required to remain intact for the system to be effective. As a result, the Krystol T‘I & T2 System is extremely durableand will last the lifetime of the concrete.
A new entrant in the Company’s product portfolio is Krystol Mortar Admixture, India’s only crystalline mortar admixture. This product is set to take the market by storm. “We saw a huge need gap for mortar waterproofing” says Mr. Racy Sidhu, CEO. “In a country where most buildings still use mortar for exteriors, KMA is the right step. It’s unique — as in there is no other product in comparison, it’s easy to use and needs no major surface preparation.”
KMA reduces permeability and absorption, self seals minor cracks and withstands high water pressure. It increases the life of the mortar while maintaining the original appearance and cleanliness. This product is a great solution for waterproofing block and brick construction, and transforms rendering mortars into waterproof protection. KMA has been used successfully in hundreds of projects since Kryton launched it in North America in 2010. It has been so successful, that it was even recently featured as the final solution for waterproofing a basement renovation in the popular American home improvement television show “This Old House”. KMA is already seeing swift business in India.
Looking Ahead
Kryton has seen one of its best years in terms of volumes and sales in India, and CEO, Mr. Racy Sidhu, says the only way to go is up. “With a boom in construction forecasted for the year 2014-2015, waterproofing, which is at the core of any construction is also geared to grow.”
Mr. Sidhu continues “The waterproofing industry has been growing at an estimated 9.2% CAGR per year; as compared to the 5-6% GDP growth which is phenomenal and is only set to go up. Year 2013-2014 was called a pivotal year for the economy to start ramping up with construction being a leading driver thanks to large infrastructure projects and internal demand and year 2014-2015 is set to see a stronger extension of this construction effort.”
