CE mark signifies that innovative integral crystalline waterproofing admixture complies with all relevant EU directives.
Vancouver, B.C. – Kryton International announced today that its concrete waterproofing admixture, KIM-HS, has qualified for European CE marking. The CE marking (also known as the CE mark) signifies that a product adheres to all applicable directives and meets designated safety and quality standards.
“We’re pleased to have met the CE marking requirements and obtained the right to use the CE mark on KIM-HS,” said Kari Yuers, President & CEO, Kryton International. “The EU represents a multi-billion dollar construction market and the CE mark is our trade passport into this marketplace. It’s fair to say that this mark will likely increase our distribution of KIM-HS within the EU by 25% in the coming year.”
Introduced as part of the formation of the European Single Market, the CE mark provides a level playing field and facilitates ease of trade between EU countries. Manufacturers of 22 different product categories must qualify for, and display, the CE mark to sell to countries within the European Union or European Free Trade Area.
Krystol Internal Membrane – High Strength (or KIM-HS) utilizes Kryton’s proprietary Krystol technology to turn porous concrete into a permanent barrier, and eliminates the need for physical waterproofing membrane systems. When mixed with concrete, Krystol creates a chemical reaction that causes millions of tiny crystals to grow, filling the spaces between concrete particles and permanently blocking the movement of water and waterborne contaminants. When cracks form in concrete, Krystol reacts with incoming water to grow additional crystals, self-sealing the cracks and eliminating the need for costly repairs.
Yuers said that, to qualify to use the CE marking, Kryton was required to undergo a rigorous assessment, including an in-depth product testing regimen in compliance with the European Standard, EN 934-2:2001, a factory inspection and an audit of the company’s quality control systems by the British Board of Agrément (BBA).
“Krystol is a proven technology that has been used worldwide for more than 30 years and we’re excited about expanding our European distribution,” said Yuers. “For European importers and customers who may not have used KIM-HS or Krystol technology in the past, the CE mark provides peace of mind by demonstrating that the product complies with all EU safety and quality standards.”
