(Vancouver, BC) – Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s export credit agency elected Kari Yuers to its Board of Directors last week. She is the President and CEO of Kryton International Inc., a concrete admixture manufacturer based out of Vancouver, BC. She will be joining Lindsay Gordon, former President & CEO of HSBC Bank Canada, and current Chancellor of UBC as the only other board member from the West Coast. Under Kari’s leadership, Kryton has flourished from a family-run business to a company with offices in 50 countries and a worldwide distribution network. Her expertise in elevating a local business to the global platform align with the goals and mandates of the EDC.
Kari has served in several leadership capacities: presently as Senior Vice Chair on the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, and previously on the Leadership and Management Development Council (LMDC) of BC and the American Concrete Institute’s International Advisory Committee. At LMDC, she focused her efforts on improving the competencies and efficiencies of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by engaging in export growth and creating a network of SME peer monitoring roundtables. She has a wealth of experience in risk management and strategic global growth and is eager to bring her SME perspective to EDC’s leadership. Speaking about her appointment, she said, “there are innumerable untapped opportunities for small and medium-sized Canadian businesses in foreign markets. Today, more than ever, Canadian businesses that choose to expand their reach to strengthen their customer base will benefit immensely.”
Having used EDC’s products and services herself, Kari is also deeply familiar with EDC’s support structure. “EDC assists these companies in thinking differently about their target markets and potential customers. I’m excited to bring my insights into conversations about providing strategic support. Exporting to varied international markets mitigates risks and doesn’t make you dependent on a single market or economy,” she adds.
Chair of EDC’s Board of Directors, Martine Imran said, “We welcome the new Board of Directors who are joining us at a critical time in today’s evolving trade environment. Together, they bring the skills and expertise necessary to ensure that EDC can help grow Canada’s export trade and support Canadian businesses today and well into the future.”
These appointments conclude an important governance exercise and ensure that the terms of all EDC Directors are current. With six new appointments, the board’s membership is gender-balanced, and representative of a significant milestone, reflecting EDC’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
