The Bandung Electronic Centre (BEC) is an IT mall in Indonesia that sells electronic gadgets. Its current design is not large enough to meet the growing demand for electronic devices in the Bandung area; to meet this demand the owner decided to build an extension and expand their offerings.
The extension will feature six floors of electronic-goods shopping and three below grade levels of parking. As the mall is located in a very crowded area of town the construction team is using a topdown method for the below grade construction and doing all the construction work at night. Due to the dense area there is no extra room to excavate for surface-applied membranes.
In order to waterproof the tight site while also allowing the developer to build right to the property line the developer chose Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) admixture. KIM was used to waterproof the three levels of below grade parking. The developer was pleased with the increased floor space gained by building right to the property line as well as the financial and time savings provided by using KIM over a traditional surface-applied membrane.
