The County of Donegal is located on Ireland’s most northerly point and is the home to some of Ireland’s most amazing scenery, ranging from high mountains, rivers, lakes, to coastal cliffs and beaches.  Glencolmcille is a small town in this county located close to the Atlantic Ocean.

The contractors’ main concern when building this house near the Atlantic Ocean was the salt sea spray.  They wanted to ensure long-term protection for the exterior of the house with resistance to waterborne chemicals, while reducing the amount of cracking in the mortar rendering.

Solution

Kryton’s Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) was selected to give protection to the mortar rendering in this project due to its proven ability to reduce permeability and water absorption.

KMA is a specially designed chemical admixture for cementitious mortar that contains Kryton’s unique Krystol technology. KMA offered numerous benefits to the contractor including:

  • Improved resistance to waterborne chemicals such as sulfates and chlorides
  • Less shrinkage and cracking
  • Self-sealing hairline cracks

ICCT Ltd supplied the materials for this project which were installed with success and are still giving good protection to this day.
