  • Owner Republic of China
  • Contractor Ballast Nedam b.v.
  • Distributor Krystol Proof b.v.

The Chinese Embassy at The Hague in the Netherlands is a high security government building that is designed to be durable and long lasting.

A major concern on this project was the potential for water leakage through the sub grade cold-joints at the intersection of the concrete slabs. The building is surrounded by a high water table, which translates into hydrostatic pressure.

Solution

The Krystol Waterstop Joint Design System was chosen by Ballast Nedam to prevent the cold joints of the basement from leaking.

Ballast Nedam applied Krystol Waterstop Treatment and Krystol Waterstop Grout according to Kryton's Technical Specifications. The Krystol Waterstop Treatment was applied to the intended joint area before the walls were poured. A keyway was built into the forms before the pour and, after pouring the walls, the keyway was filled with Krystol Waterstop Grout.

Five weeks later the water was standing against the basement wall and the cold joints are dusty dry.
