Marina Bay Sands’ Crystal Pavilions are located just opposite the Marina Bay Sands promenade. These uniquely designed pavilions appear to float on the water.

When the Marina Bay Sands builders were looking to construct the two stand-alone floating Crystal Pavilions they didn’t need to look far for a solution. The team chose Kryton’s Krystol Concrete Waterproofing System which was also used to waterproof the massive foundation of the Marina Bay Sands’ towers, which includes multi-levels of retail space, a casino, exhibition center, parking, tunnels and more. Marina Bay Sands was built on reclaimed land and the Kryton Waterproofing System is keeping the areas protected and dry.

Solution

Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) admixture was added to the concrete mix to waterproof over 6000 cubic meters (over 8000 cubic yards) of concrete in the foundations of the Crystal Pavilions. It is very fitting that the construction team selected Kryton’s Krystol technology to waterproof their “crystalline island.” Kryton’s Krystol line of products use a proprietary mix of crystalline chemicals that form a chemical reaction within the concrete to self-seal cracks, increase the durability of concrete and stop the intrusion of water.

The two Crystal Pavilions opened September 2011 and house the world’s largest Louis Vuitton boutique and one of the hottest nightclubs – Avalon. The pavilions remain protected from water with Kryton’s Krystol Concrete Waterproofing System.
