As a growing premixed bakery and food products manufacturer in the Philippines, Mix Plant, Inc. needed to build a space where they could test, manufacture, and store their food products. That resulted in the waterproofing and construction of a multi-building project, which included an extension to their bakery, a technical building, and a warehouse. All of which was completed successfully in June 2018.
To get to that point, Mix Plant, Inc. was particular about using construction materials that would be relatively safe for food manufacturing. On top of that, their general contractor, Romari Construction, Inc., wanted a waterproofing product that would be easy to apply and would be able to permanently waterproof the multi-building project. At first, the general contractor considered using liquid-applied membranes, but they weren’t convinced that such a product would be a long-term solution.
Given the reliable history of Kryton’s Smart Concrete® solutions, the project leads eventually chose Kryton’s concrete waterproofing admixture, KIM, as their desired waterproofing product. The award-winning admixture not only had over three decades of proven success, but it also had NSF Standard 61 certification deeming it safe for contact with potable water, making it an ideal admixture for a food manufacturing plant. That made it especially appealing to Mix Plant, Inc. Moreover, to the delight of the company’s general contractor, the KIM admixture was permanent and incredibly easy to apply. The ease with which KIM could be applied allowed the construction team to complete their waterproofing and building activities ahead of time, even when the ready-mix concrete deliveries ended up being a bit behind schedule.
In the end, the construction team used a total of 2,270 kg of KIM concrete for the floors of all three buildings. Its use addressed both the food-safety concerns of the owner and the permanency and application concerns of the general contractor. To add to that, the construction team felt particularly impressed by the technical support for KIM that came from Kryton’s authorized distributor in the Philippines, Winblast Resources Corp. At the same time, they were pleased that the overall project was a success and was completed on time without any complications. Even the owner’s site representative was satisfied at the end result, noting that the finished floors showed no signs of cracking.
