The Seria Crude Oil Terminal (SCOT) is owned by the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and is located on the Seria field in Brunei. The SCOT provides collection, storage and export facilities for crude oil; they also have facilities for water separation, dehydration and treatment.

Structural repair work was needed for six large crude dehydration concrete tanks. One of the tanks was going to be a particularly challenging repair because the constant flow of underground water beneath the base slab.

BSP is strongly committed to health, safety and the environment, so when they were looking for repair products, a system which was nontoxic and environmentally friendly was a BSP requirement.

Solution

Engineers at SCOT chose BUE Enterprise, Kryton's distributor in Brunei Darussalam. The engineer had heard good things about BUE’s team of waterproofing specialists and Kryton’s line of concrete waterproofing products.

BUE's repair specialists used Kryton’s Krystol Leak Repair System to stop the flowing water and repair a diverse range of challenging cracks in the tanks, including cracks with intense flowing water. Kryton’s Leak Repair System consists of three products: rapid-setting Krystol Plug which stops any flowing water; the active integral crystalline product Krystol T1, which provides the permanent waterproofing; and a strong, waterproof, non-shrink grout called Krystol Bari-Cote to cap off and finish the repair.

Kryton products contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), are safe for use with potable water, makes concrete more durable and allows for the concrete to be recyclable at the end of its life, unlike when using traditional membranes.

SCOT’s team was delighted that BUE finished the repair ahead of schedule allowing the SCOT to open the tank again and minimize disruption to their operations.
