After the success of their first Vietnamese plant in 2009, Samsung Electronics launched a second plant in Thai Nguyen Province. Located in the Yen Binh 1 Industrial Park, the Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen (SEVT) complex will manufacture Samsung products such as mobile phones, smart phones and tablets.

The project broke ground in March, 2013, and will cover some 100 hectares at a total cost of US$2 billion. It is on target to open in August 2014 and will make Vietnam Samsung’s top smart phone and tablet manufacturing location in the world.

This plant requires a large 19,000 liter water tank for both its manufacturing needs, and also to supply for emergency fire fighting. After the original construction, it was found that repairs were need to
honeycombing and cracking of the concrete in isolated locations.

Solution

SAMOO Architects and Engineers, the consulting body on this project, had experienced great success
with Kryton’s Krystol Concrete Waterproofing System on a previous project in Korea. Due to experience,
they elected to use this technology to repair and waterproof the damaged concrete.

Honeycombing damage on both the interior and exterior of the water tank was repaired with the Krystol Crack Repair System, consisting of Krystol Plug, Krystol T1 and T2, as well as Krystol Bari-Cote. All of these proprietary products contain hydrophilic crystalline chemicals, which work with water and moisture to create water blocking crystals within the capillaries of the concrete.

After the Krystol Crack Repair System was applied, a surface coating of Krystol T1 and T2 was applied
to 5200m2 of the interior of the water tank. This measure ensured a permanent concrete waterproofing
solution was used for the surface of the structure.
