Alexandria is expanding exponentially with large projects for infrastructure, residential, and commercial use. One of the largest compounds of residential towers is the Smouha Heights-Albaron residential towers. Offering a unique architectural style and modern vision for a region with such a rich and storied history, Smouha Heights marries the new and old together.
For residential towers in any part of the world, the building envelope is a critical factor within the construction process. Ensuring that the outside of the building is able to stop the progress of chemical and weathering attack to the inside is essential to ensure low maintenance and life-cycle costs for the owners. To do so, a cost-effective and reliable concrete waterproofing solution is integral to the success of Smouha Heights.
There were two options presented by Kryton distributor, Pentagon Co. (Eng. Ragab Abo Elnabayel) for this particular project. The first was to add Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) admixture to the R.C. slab and retaining walls, and the second was Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) to all plastering mortar enveloping the R.C. slab and retaining walls, then apply Krystol T1 to the negative side. General Contractor, Albaron Costruction Co, decided to go with the latter, along with Kryton Waterstop system for all construction joints, walls, and slab intersections for a watertight structure. KMA was used for the plastering under the slab on grade and on the diaphragm walls.
As of writing, the Smouha Heights residential tower is watertight and leak free for all residents to enjoy as intended.
