British Columbia (BC) is a beautiful Canadian province to live in, offering a variety of natural scenic views. No matter where someone goes in BC, they will often be met with lush greenery, mountains, lakes, or more. Even when they go to more urban areas, they can expect to see plenty of trees, grass, and other plants dotting the landscape.
However, as beautiful as BC environments can be, they can also come with obstacles for those who live there. One BC resident in particular, a ready-mix salesperson, noticed it was especially an issue for residential driveways during cold weather, stating that:
In BC, our driveways are exposed to multiple freeze-thaw cycles each day throughout our winter season and to de-icers tracked in by vehicles.
When freeze-thawing and de-icers weren’t creating popouts in the concrete of his driveway, acid rain would enter into the picture, eroding away the rest of the driveway concrete. It didn’t help that his particular driveway was sloped, ensuring any corrosive or other concrete-damaging material would run down it.
He needed a solution, but he didn’t want just any kind. As a sales representative of a local ready-mix company, he wanted one that would help his driveway withstand the weather and de-icers for many years. He also wanted one that he could proudly show to clients and people nearby as incontrovertible proof that the solutions he sold for similar delamination situations were worth it.
With all that in mind, he sought out Kryton, inquiring about the company’s integral hardening admixture, Hard-Cem. The company felt the admixture would be of benefit to him, and in response, the salesperson's contractor went to work applying the product to his driveway.
The application went off without a hitch and was deemed incredibly user-friendly. The end results were equally pleasant, with the salesperson noting that:
By adding Hard-Cem integrally to my concrete and applying an oil- and gas-resistant sealer, I now have the additional resistance to any abrasion and erosion that may occur during our ever-changing climate. This will help extend the life of my driveway and ultimately, save me money.
All of which has allowed him to get the proof necessary to show why Hard-Cem is essential for concrete structures that need protection from delamination.
